In his first job after full-time education, Craig came to William Simpsons as a Support Worker and now works as a Care Supervisor.

Now a member of the care management team, Craig has worked as a Supervisor in William Simpsons since his successful application for one of four newly created roles in June 2021.

Craig is a fantastic example of the career progression, upskilling and continuing professional development that is available to team members at William Simpsons.  Starting with the charity in 2014, in his first real role after full-time education, Craig worked as a Support Worker, caring for and assisting the residents in their day to day lives at the home.

During his early years at William Simpsons, and with full support and funding from the charity, Craig began to work towards his SVQ 3 in Social Services and Healthcare, achieving the qualification in 2016.

In June 2017, Craig successfully applied for and was promoted to the more senior role of Team Leader – heading up a small team of Support Workers to deliver round-the-clock support to the William Simpsons’ residents in their care.  During his time as a Team Leader, Craig resumed his studies, achieving an SQA Accredited Professional Development Award and qualifying as a Health & Social Care supervisor.

Putting this new qualification to good use, in 2021 Craig was one of the successful applicants for the four newly created roles of Care Supervisor at William Simpsons. Not only does this latest promotion give him a management voice within the Care Team, it also allows Craig to participate in wider projects within the home, broadening his experience in all the different aspects of running a charitable care home.

For example, Craig was part of the team tasked with reviewing and selecting new software for electronic care planning, and then assisting with the roll-out of the chosen solution, including training others to use the system.

At William Simpsons, our skilled and experienced team are happy to share their expertise, thoughts, opinions and lessons learned, and it is part of our culture to support professional development that helps our team to improve their knowledge and skills and move up into more senior roles within the charity.  Craig has maximised on all of this to go from Support Worker to Supervisor in just a few years, and he’s a real success story for William Simpsons – and someone that we are very proud of.
